Cuando existe hipertensi\u00f3n ocular, la parte anterior del ojo no drena&nbsp;l\u00edquido&nbsp;adecuadamente. Esto hace que la presi\u00f3n ocular aumente. Una presi\u00f3n ocular m\u00e1s alta que lo normal puede causar el&nbsp;glaucoma. El glaucoma es una enfermedad en la que la presi\u00f3n ocular da\u00f1a el&nbsp;nervio \u00f3ptico, causando p\u00e9rdida de la visi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>La hipertensi\u00f3n ocular no es lo mismo que el glaucoma.<\/strong> <\/em>En la hipertensi\u00f3n ocular, el nervio \u00f3ptico tiene aspecto normal y no hay signos de p\u00e9rdida de la visi\u00f3n. Sin embargo, <em><strong>las personas con hipertensi\u00f3n ocular&nbsp;est\u00e1n en riesgo incremental de desarrollar glaucoma<\/strong><\/em> y se consideran \u201csospechosos de glaucoma\u201d. Eso significa que deben ver al oftalm\u00f3logo regularmente para comprobar que no hay glaucoma. La hipertensi\u00f3n ocular por lo general no tiene ning\u00fan signo o s\u00edntoma.
